Nobody in Your Team Wants to Be on Camera. Now What?

The most common reason a business stops posting is not budget. It is that the owner hates being filmed and nobody else volunteers.

Filming a vertical video on a phone indoors

Three ways to make video without a face

Hands doing the work, filmed close, with a voiceover recorded later. A screen or product with narration. A customer or staff member who does not mind the camera. All three outperform a nervous owner reading a script.

If it has to be you

Confidence is a setup problem more than a personality problem.

  • Film alone, with nobody watching, on a tripod.
  • Talk to one specific customer in your head, not to an audience.
  • Record the same line four times and keep the fourth.
  • Stop watching yourself back more than once.

Pick the person, not the volunteer

Whoever explains things best at the counter is your on-camera person, regardless of title. Give them ten minutes a week and protect it.

Rough is not a problem

Local audiences trust an owner who fumbles a sentence far more than a model reading a line. The polish you are worried about is the thing that would have hurt you.

Real examples

Bad line, good line.

Most people write

The owner reading a script stiffly to a room full of watching staff.

Say this instead

Hands making the product, close up, with a voiceover recorded later, alone.

Most people write

Waiting until someone volunteers to be filmed.

Say this instead

Asking whoever explains things best at the counter, by name.

Full example

Worked example: a workshop with a shy owner

01Film hands only: cutting, stitching, packing. Ten seconds per step.
02Record the voiceover afterwards, alone, reading four lines.
03Post one, watch it once, and never rewatch it again.

Hands and voiceover

Close on the work, narrate later.

Staff or customer

Whoever explains best at the counter.

Product and screen

Narrated, no face at all.

All three beat a nervous person reading a script.

Your customers are not judging your presence. They are judging whether you sound real.

Do this week

Three things you can do now.

01Film one video showing only hands and a voiceover.
02Name the person on your team who explains things best and ask them.
03Record your next line four times and post the fourth take.
